The North Fork Ospreys threw their first no-hitter since 2017 as Carter Heagle (Merrimack), Edward Torres (Post), Bradyn Thompson (Bates) and Matt Guido (Lycoming) did not allow a hit in the Ospreys 5-4 win on the road over the Riverhead Tomcats in Calverton.

North Fork would get on the board in the top of the first on a two-run single from Sincere Lozano (Lemoyne Owen) to give the Ospreys an early 2-0 lead.

The Ospreys added onto the lead in the top of the fourth when Nick Porcello (Manhattanville) hit an RBI ground-out to increase the North Fork lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Heagle would have some trouble when he allowed two runners on Riverhead to reach base on a walk and an error. The Ospreys would go to the bullpen turning to Torres as he would get Kevin Schnupp (UMass Amherst) to ground into a fielders choice to end the potential Riverhead rally.

The Ospreys would get a run in the fifth and sixth innings to put their lead at 5-0. Gianni Generoso (SUNY Westchester Community College) got a run in the fifth on an RBI single and then Ian Vertucci (Felician) hit a sacrifice fly for North Fork’s fifth run of the game.

Bradyn Thompson would come on in relief of Torres in the bottom of the sixth and would face trouble allowing five walks to Riverhead batters which resulted in a pair of runs cutting the score to 5-2. Guido would come on in relief with one out in the sixth and would right allow a bases loaded hit by pitch to Zach DeMitt (Adelphi) cutting the Ospreys lead down to two runs.

An RBI fielders choice by Jack Byrne (Fairfield) resulted in the second out of the inning but the Ospreys were now only up one run with runners on the corners despite the no-hit bid remaining intact. Guido would get Bryan McCleary (Adelphi) to fly out to center field on a 1-0 count keeping the lead and the no-hit bid going to the seventh inning.

The Ospreys would have two men on base with two out in the top of the seventh but could not come through with an insurance run as Guido came back out for the bottom of the seventh.

After allowing a lead off walk to Thomas Iaquinto (Felician), Guido would get a fly out to center field for the first out and then would get Adrian Tavarez (St. John’s) to ground out in a double play to give the Ospreys their second no-hitter in franchise history.

Chase Phelps (Fort Wayne) pitched the Ospreys first no-hitter back in 2017 in a 3-0 Ospreys win over the Southampton Breakers. The no-hitter by Heagle, Torres, Thompson and Guido is the first combined no-hitter in HCBL history with at least four pitchers. It is the 15^th no-hitter in the history of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League and the sixth combined no-hitter in HCBL history.
