Aden Soroca Throws Ninth No-Hitter in HCBL History

Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League history was made on Thursday as Aden Soroca (Hamilton) pitched the ninth no-hitter in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.

Soroca only allowed two walks as he went six innings in the Breakers 14-1 mercy rule win in six innings against the Shelter Island Bucks. Soroca’s no-hitter is the third in Southampton Breakers franchise history.

Brett Moore (Mount St. Mary’s) pitched the Breakers first no-hitter in 2009 against North Fork while Henry Escandon (Catholic U), Connor Schlidt (St. Joseph’s-Long Island) and Jacob Pedersen (Adelphi) combined for the second last season against Shelter Island.

Soroca’s only bit of trouble was in the fourth when he allowed back-to-back walks which would result in a sacrifice fly from JD Stemhagen (Manhattan) for the Bucks lone run.

Soroca threw 81 pitches and struck out six Shelter Island batters. Soroca in the bottom of the sixth would strike out Tyler Galletti (Manhattan) to accomplish the HCBL’s ninth no-hitter.

On the offensive side for Southampton, Easton Harris (Bradley) had three RBI while Aidan Barry (Villanova) had a three-run home run in the top of the fourth. Southampton broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning which gave them a 14-1 lead which ended up being the final score.

The Breakers at 11-12-1 currently trail the South Shore Clippers (12-11) by one point for fourth place in the HCBL standings as the two teams play a doubleheader at Southampton High School on Friday right before the HCBL All-Star Game on Saturday in Sag Harbor.
