Whalers Walk-Off Against Bucks for Third Time This Season
The Sag Harbor Whalers walked-off against the Shelter Island Bucks for the third time in the 2026 season at Mashashimuet Park coming back from a 6-0 deficit to win 7-6 on Sunday.
Shelter Island got on the board scoring two runs in the top of the third on an RBI single from David Swift (Bates) and an RBI ground out by Miguel Reich (Dickinson) to lead 2-0. The Bucks added another run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Jack Pittman (Bentley).
The Bucks would double their lead scoring three runs in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Reich, an RBI single by Pittman and a Sag Harbor error that scored Connor McGill (Point Loma) which made the score 6-0 in favor of Shelter Island.
Sag Harbor would begin their comeback by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Thomas Shaw (Castleton) got the Whalers’ first run of the game with an RBI infield single to shortstop. Collin Harty (Nichols) followed with a two-RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-3.
The Whalers would tie the score in the bottom of the sixth. Fires, Logan O’Connor (Crown) cut the score to 6-4 with an RBI single. Shaw would then come up to the plate with two on and two out down by two runs and would deliver a two-run single tying the game at 6-6.
Finley Holmes (Palm Beach Atlantic) would come on to pitch in relief for Sag Harbor in the top of the seventh and would pitch a scoreless inning keeping the score tied.
Holmes would lead-off in the bottom of the seventh and would work a walk and would later steal second as Eddie Morrissey (St. Lawrence) came up to the plate. Morrissey would take a 2-0 pitch to right field bringing Holmes in to score and gave the first-place Whalers their seventh win of the season.
The Whalers return to action on Tuesday when they play as the visiting team at Mashashimuet Park against the Westhampton Aviators while the Bucks look to snap their seven-game losing streak against the Riverhead Tomcats in Calverton.
