North Fork 8, Westhampton 4
The North Fork Ospreys on the strength of an eight-run sixth inning defeated the Westhampton Aviators by a final score of 8-4 on Saturday.
The first five innings saw a pitching duel between Westhampton’s Joseph Hiller (Quinnipiac) and North Fork’s Devin Saltzgaber (Pomona) where the game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, Oliver Kwan (Wesleyan) would rip a single with two out to break the scoreless tie and put the Aviators up 1-0.
The Ospreys would start their rally with a two-run single from Gianni Generoso (SUNY Westchester) that would give North Fork the lead. Mike Siano (St. Lawrence) would add another run on a bases loaded walk which would be followed by a three-run double by Nicolas Martini (Eastern Connecticut State) that increased North Fork’s lead to 6-1.
A double steal and an RBI double by Manny Carreras (Pace) would give the Ospreys two more runs in the sixth as they took an 8-1 lead in the top of the seventh.
Joe Williams (Bates) who came on in relief for Saltzgaber in the sixth for North Fork came out to pitch in the seventh and faced trouble allowing two runs on an error and an RBI groundout by Garrett Mathias (Bucknell) which cut the score to 8-4.
Matt Guido (Lycoming) would come on to pitch with two on and one out for the save opportunity up by four runs and would get the final two outs for North Fork to preserve their third win of the season.
Southampton 10, Sag Harbor 5
The Southampton Breakers took advantage of a five-run second inning and ended up defeating the Sag Harbor Whalers by a score of 10-5 on Saturday at Southampton High School.
Brendan Garber (Holy Cross) went 3-for-4 at the plate in the lead-off spot for Southampton going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Garber had the big blow in the game hitting a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Daniel McDonnell (Roger Williams) pitched four innings for Southampton allowing two runs on one hit earning his second win of the season. Owen Callaghan (Holy Cross) pitched the last three innings for the Breakers to get a three-inning save.
Anthony Sarro (Fairleigh Dickinson) hit his league-leading third home run of the season for Sag Harbor in the top of the third inning.
