Westhampton 3, North Fork 1

The Westhampton Aviators combined for a one-hitter to get their first win of the season in their “home” opener at Peconic with a 3-1 win over the North Fork Ospreys.

Aviators starting pitcher Jesse Kostulias (New Haven) pitched four no-hit innings allowing an unearned run the top of the second inning. The Mineola native struck out six North Fork batters while allowing just two walks.

Lucas Miller (Union) followed by tossing two shutout innings of relief allowing the only hit for the Ospreys in the top of the fifth on a one-out single from Mike Siano (St. Lawrence).

The Aviators would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Luke Rizzi (AIC) and would get an insurance run in the sixth inning on a wild pitch that brought in Brett Connolly (Washington (MD) to score.

Gabriel Pena (AIC) hurled a scoreless seventh inning to get the save for the Aviators as they got their first win of the season.

Ospreys starting pitcher Devin Saltzgaber (Pomona-Pitzer) had a solid outing despite getting the loss in the decision. Saltzgaber pitched 4.2 innings in his season debut allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Shelter Island 5, Sag Harbor 3

In the first two days of the 2026 HCBL season David Swift (Bates) has been the big story for the Shelter Island Bucks.

Swift’s second home run in two days, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth helped start a Bucks comeback leading to a 5-3 win over Sag Harbor on Saturday.

The Whalers got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single from Aidan Callahan (Emerson). Sag Harbor added two runs in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Matteo Cubello (St. Anselm) and Hudson Meyer (Oswego State) to lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth Cayden Van Dolah (Holy Cross) reached on an error followed by Swift stepping up to the plate as he smashed his second home run of the young HCBL season.

Shelter Island then tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by George Proffitt (St. Lawrence). The Bucks would then take the lead on a two-run infield single from Van Dolah which made the score 5-3 in favor of Shelter Island.

Sam Lowenstein (Colby) worked around a two-out walk in the seventh to preserve the win for the Bucks. Brennan Shapiro (Babson) pitched six innings in his first start of the season for Shelter Island to get his first win of 2026. Shapiro struck out six batters and allowed two walks.

The Southampton Breakers worked with 12 Riverhead walks as they got an 8-3 win over the Tomcats on Saturday in their home opener at Southampton High School.

Southampton got an early run on an RBI grounder from Nick Slogik (Rowan College at Gloucester) in the first inning. The Breakers then scored three runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.

Daniel McDonnell (Roger Williams) pitched three innings allowing just one hit with three strikeouts and a walk earning the win for Riverhead.
