Game 1 of the 2024 NACSB Prospect Games at Worthington Field on the campus at Liberty University in Virginia saw the top prospects of the HCBL take a victory early Monday morning.

The HCBL prospect team defeated the prospects from the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) by a score of 7-3.

The Hamptons League were down early when the NYCBL took advantage of a two-out error in the top of the first. Bryce Rudisill (Pittsburgh) ripped an RBI double to give the NYCBL prospects an early 1-0 lead.

The HCBL evened the score in the bottom of the first as Tyler Smith (Saint Peter’s) hit an RBI double with two out that scored Tucker Genovesi (St. Bonaventure).

The NYCBL regained the lead in the top of the fourth when Rudisill hit his second RBI double of the game which was then followed by an RBI double from Jake Ambrosio (Lock Haven) that put the HCBL down in a 3-1 hole.

In the bottom of the fourth the HCBL had the bases loaded with two out when Aidan O’Keefe (Richmond) worked on an RBI walk to cut the score to 3-2. Genovesi would put the HCBL ahead in the following at-bat with a two-run double making the score 4-3. Ty Acker (George Washington) would add another two runs on single before getting thrown out at second base ending the five-run inning for the HCBL.

The Hamptons League would add another run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI groundout from Tim Hennig (Binghamton) that scored O’Keefe making it 7-3 in favor of the HCBL.

The HCBL bullpen handled things the rest of the way. The bullpen of the Hamptons League only allowed one NYCBL hit in the final five innings of play. Colin Carver (Marist) who pitched two innings in the third and fourth innings earned the win.

Ty Acker the current HCBL league leader in batting average hit 2-for-3 at the plate. Anthony Scarabino (Albany) was 2-for-4 for the Hamptons League with a double and a run scored.

Day 2 for the Hamptons League at the NACSB Prospect Games at Worthington Field will be on Tuesday against the top prospects of the Sunbelt Baseball League (SBL) at 9:00 AM. Live coverage can be streamed at FloSports (subscription required).
